Digital products ✹ branding & creative strategy✦ ai & marketing systems ● design management
Born in Mexico and based in Miami, I've been working in the design industry for 16+ years. My start was in digital design, creating logos and promotional graphics for the local Miami music and nightlife scene; Work that was often paid in even tickets and free entrance to events, which at 14 years old, was good enough.
From those early Miami days I knew that my life's work would be dedicated to the field of design, in whatever way I could contribute.
I think the best way to learn about a designer is to look at 3 key attributes. These attributes are broad but I think if answered efficiently and in a direct and concise manner, could give anyone a clear picture as to what it might be like to hire or work with that designer.
The 3 attributes are: Design Style, Design Process and Communication style. My answer to how I would describe myself as a designer according to those 3 attributes are as follows.
Design Style: As a design, part of the job implies a willingness and ability to adapt to the client or product. As that may be, I also believe a designer leaves a little part of themselves in whatever they create, a signature if you will. For me, my design style can be described as playful, always finding ways to add a touch of the human experience to the product. Humans aren't perfect, and the products we interact with lend themselves to that imperfection. I love to design in ways where we can highlight how a person might engage or use a product, and in the process give the product a little bit of life, in a way, make it relatable.
Design Process: The short answer is I love documentation and organization. The reason for that is that my process lends itself to exploration and trial and error. Therefore, in order to keep track of every idea as it evolves to the final product, I need to make sure everything is properly documented and organized.
Communication Style: I adapt a more collaborative and intuitive approach. I love to work in teams, and for me the editing or review portion is very important, and should always include multiple opinions when necessary, depending on where in the process the design is.
